Campaign Description

Alpe d'Huez,...July 2, 2025

What was supposed to be a fantastic experience turned into a stupid fall during a training ride on the bike. Because Stijn doesn't do things halfway, he didn't just break his leg, but fell in such a way that he broke his left leg in 22 places and shattered his knee. A helicopter flight and a ride in an ambulance from the distant Alps brought Stijn back to our Belgian country for rehabilitation.

But that rehabilitation did not go as planned. A nasty bacteria settled in Stijn's leg twice and caused him to end up in one operation after another. With all the consequences and worries that come with it. Worries about his job as a firefighter, financial worries, and worries about keeping his leg.

Edegem,...February 18, 2026

Because Stijn wants to be the Stijn he was before his accident (read: impulsive, sporty, adventurous, fantastic dad, and a dedicated firefighter), he opted to have all the material removed from his leg, as he was poisoning himself and the hope of keeping his leg was dwindling. Instead, an external frame was placed from his thigh to his ankle, which has now kept him tied to his hospital bed for weeks. A physical, but especially mental torment. To attack the bacteria in his leg in the most optimal way, special antibiotic beads were placed in his leg. Unfortunately, this technique is not yet recognized and is incredibly expensive, which adds to all the misery and uncertainties, creating an even greater financial burden. A burden that already existed, as he has not been able to work since July 2 and the road to a hopefully full recovery is still long.

We also really want to have the Stijn back that he was before, and for that, we are happy to help alleviate one of his worries. Hopefully, this crowdfunding can help lighten the financial load significantly.
