Who is Marin?

Marin (48) is a husband and father known to everyone for his smile, positive attitude, and contagious energy. He is a man who loves people, nature, music: he loves life. Unfortunately, Marin's heart can no longer keep up with his spirit.

A battle we cannot fight alone

Marin was born with a very rare and severe heart defect. In 2007, his life was saved by surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, which allowed him nearly 20 years of active life, a life he dedicated to his family, friends, and the wider community. He and his wife Nataša both work in a public kindergarten.

Unfortunately, Marin's heart is now in a much worse condition and he urgently needs an extremely complex multiple reoperation.

His condition is very specific and high-risk, and that is why, after a long search, we found the best and safest solution abroad. Unfortunately, we are covering all the costs of this treatment completely on our own. The healthcare system does not cover this procedure, and the amounts needed for Marin to even reach the operating table exceed what one family can bear. That is why we earnestly ask for your help because every second is precious to us.

What does the treatment involve?

Cost of surgery and hospital treatment:

 reimplantation of the left coronary artery,

 repair of the mitral valve,

 implantation of mechanical circulatory support for the heart

postoperative care and rehabilitation: hospital stay and intensive monitoring, estimated: 1-3 months

+ air travel and accommodation for Marin and his wife as his escort

*Estimated treatment costs exceed 500,000. We expect an official quotation and as soon as it arrives, it will be publicly announced here. The publicly available price list of the clinic is attached (update).

All collected funds will be used exclusively for the above-mentioned costs, which we will report on regularly. If the funds exceed the target, they will be redirected to treat other patients with heart defects, and if fewer funds are raised, the surgery will be performed at a foreign center with a lower cost of treatment.
